What’s Happening:
Many blame the crisis in Ukraine on Joe Biden’s initially weak comment. Back in February, he appeared to give Putin a “green light” to invade the country.
Now, Biden is being tested again, as Putin ramps up the threats.
From Daily Mail:
Vladimir Putin today issued a chilling new threat to use nuclear weapons against the West, telling world leaders to back off Ukraine while warning: ‘I’m not bluffing’…
Putin’s gambit comes after Ukraine routed a large part of the Russian army last week, leaving him backed into a corner of his own making and facing the possible collapse of his so-called ‘special military operation’.
It appears that Putin is making this threat as Russia loses ground in its ongoing attack on Ukraine.
Biden was quick to respond to Putin’s threat–but, as usual, appeared to get it wrong.
From Fox News:
President Biden warned world leaders Wednesday that a nuclear war “cannot be won and must never be fought,” as he accused Russia of violating the United Nations international charter in its “brutal, needless war” against Ukraine, and stressed that the U.S. “does not seek conflict” or a “Cold War” with China.
It seems Biden is trying to recover from his weak stance against Russia from back in February.
He criticized Putin for making threats of nuclear war. But despite his strong words, Biden didn’t seem willing to do anything to hold Russia accountable.
Biden was speaking before the U.N. He could have used the United States’s veto power to remove Russia from the Security Council.
As Putin ramps up the threats, Biden isn’t announcing any new measures to confront the threat.
We’ve been told for months that Putin is “evil.” That we need to make “sacrifices” to ensure Russia loses its war with Ukraine.
But what has Biden done to actually turn the tide–aside from giving away billions of U.S. tax dollars?
Talk is cheap, as we know. Putin might just be saber-rattling. But he does have enough power in Russia to make good on his threat.
What is Biden going to do? Nothing he said provides clear assurance to the U.S. or the world that he has a plan.
If Putin does do the unthinkable, Biden is the last person we want responding.
Key Takeaways:
- Putin threatened, again, to use nuclear force in its war against Ukraine.
- Joe Biden condemned Russia before the U.N. but vowed no action.
- Biden is largely responsible for the Ukraine war, by giving Putin the green light in February.
