California started out as the land where dreams came true, but today, much of what goes on there is the stuff of nightmares.
One contributing factor is the presence of countless illegal aliens, who, besides committing a crime simply by crossing the southern border, often go on to violate other laws, sometimes with deadly consequences.
But for whatever bizarre reason, the state’s liberals seem to ignore, if not outright embrace, this chaotic situation.
Throughout the election campaign, Donald Trump vowed to crack down on so-called “sanctuary cities,” many of which are located in California. Now that he is president and that promise is closer to becoming the law of the land, the denizens of the “left coast” are preparing to rebel.
CBC Los Angeles reports:
California may prohibit local law enforcement from cooperating with federal immigration authorities, creating a border-to-border sanctuary in the nation’s largest state as legislative Democrats ramp up their efforts to battle President Donald Trump’s migration policies.
The legislation is scheduled for its first public hearing Tuesday as the Senate rushes to enact measures that Democratic lawmakers say would protect immigrants from the crackdown that the Republican president has promised. (…)
The Democratic legislation, written by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon of Los Angeles, comes up for debate less than a week after Trump signed an order threatening to withdraw some federal grants from jurisdictions that bar officials from communicating with federal authorities about someone’s immigration status.
In his first days as president, Donald Trump has proven to be a man of his word. He has paused immigration from seven terror hotspots, appointed a new conservative Supreme Court justice, and begun “draining the swamp.” Do California Democrats really believe that he won’t keep one of his other promises—to cut off federal funding from “sanctuary cities”?
The biggest puzzle is: Why?
Why are California Democrats so determined to welcome illegal immigrants to their state? It is a fact that these aliens use up massive amounts of resources in education, medicine, law enforcement and more without paying taxes themselves. And many of their citizens don’t even want this kind of protection for illegals. Now California is essentially going to cut off access to billions in cash from Washington, DC. It simply defies reason.
