If you ask liberals what made America great — and you can find a liberal willing to admit that America IS great — they will probably reply smugly, “Immigrants.”
How often have you heard that “diversity is our strength” and that “America is a nation of immigrants”? The problem is that both of these expressions are very recent additions to our conception of U.S. history.
The fact is, the Founding Fathers weren’t actually pro-immigrant in the way we understand it, as their writings make clear.
But all that has been swept under the rug by progressive educators and other leftist elites.
Whereas a conservative, if asked the same question, might very well answer, “the rule of law.” Unless the vast majority of citizens in any given country can be relied upon to obey the law, the result will be chaos and no great society can last for long.
That’s why the following story is so disturbing. In the name of “compassion,” progressives are flouting the law as an attempt to undermine President Trump’s policy on border security:
Nearly 500 jurisdictions are now sanctuary cities, according to a group that’s tracked the issue for more than a decade, and who said there’s been a massive surge in the number of places trying to thwart federal immigration agents since President Trump’s election.
The Ohio Jobs & Justice Political Action Committee has added more than three dozen new cities and counties to its list in 2017 alone, as jurisdictions rush to try to shield illegal immigrants from what they expect to be a new push for deportations under Mr. Trump. (…)
All told, those sanctuaries released more than 2,000 illegal immigrants back onto the streets that ICE agents had been trying to deport.
However, the group points out that a small number of cities are being removed from the list because they’ve since declared their intention to cooperate with Homeland Security in future.
Only time will tell how many more cities will join them. After all, it is one thing for a liberal mayor or other municipal representative to publicly defy Trump, as an attempt to ingratiate himself with the local elites.
However, it is another thing for them to stick to their guns once Washington cuts off their federal funding, which Trump has threatened to do to sanctuary cities. Trump can’t be happy about their initial reaction, but when the rubber hits the road, they may back off their defiance to federal laws.
It’s very likely that by the end of this year, a lot of sanctuary cities will have quietly backed off this policy.
