Republicans have been known to complain that the other side has all the “cool” celebrities.
Everyone knows that Hollywood stars by and large vote Democrat. So do most musicians and artists. However, sports figures don’t always wear their political affiliation prominently, like the numbers on their jerseys.
This week that changed, when a man whose name is synonymous with the sport he helped popularize made a stunning announcement:
According to the NY Daily News:
Jack Nicklaus believes Donald Trump is “turning America upside down,” which apparently is a compliment. The legendary golfer told CBS Sunday Morning that he’ll vote for the New York businessman.
“He’s awakening the country,” Nicklaus said.
“We need a lot of that. Is he a politician? Is he as smooth and politically correct as he should be? Probably not. But he’ll learn,” the golfer said. “He’s not stupid. He didn’t get where he was being dumb. I like the guy. He’s a good man. And certainly — if he’s the one that’s on the ticket, I’ll be voting for him.”
Trump, of course, counts a number of golf courses among his many properties, and is a huge fan of the sport.
Given Nicklaus’ sterling reputation and name recognition, the presumptive GOP nominee probably felt like he’d hit a hole in one when he heard the great golfer’s unqualified endorsement.
