After Supreme Court Protects 2nd Amendment – New York Passes ‘Unconstitutional’ Gun License Laws

What’s Happening:

This year, the Supreme Court issued a historic ruling in favor of the Second Amendment. But increasingly socialist New York rushed to pass a flurry of laws that invalidate the new ruling.

The court decided that states can’t set tough rules for people seeking concealed carry permits. So instead, New York has created an “unconstitutional” barrier to Americans’ rights.

From The Federalist:

New York’s new gun control law takes effect in two weeks. The law turns New York into a giant “gun-free zone.” But it also requires an in-person interview with law enforcement and the sharing of all social media accounts in order to obtain a gun license.

By requiring that gun license applicants have “good moral character,” New York is still acting in defiance of June’s Supreme Court decision…

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s opinion in Bruen stressed the importance of “objective” standards for gun permits, ones that don’t require “the exercise of judgment, and the formation of opinion.”

It looks like a new gun rights battle is headed for the courts. The Supreme Court ruled that states cannot set “objective” standards when issuing gun permits.

Liberal states have long given government bureaucrats the power to decide, at their own discretion, whether a law-abiding citizen can carry a gun.

Even when people face death threats or live in a dangerous area, they are rarely given a conceal carry permit.

The Supreme Court eliminated these barriers. But New York quickly came up with new limits that deny Americans their rights.

They passed bills that make most places in New York “gun free zones.” Private property owners need to provide “clear and conspicuous signage” that guns are allowed.

On top of that, they issued new rules for permits where a citizen needs to prove they have “good moral character.”

Really? And who is deciding what “good moral character” looks like? Jesus Christ? Is he on the panel deciding Americans’ fate?

Or is a group of liberal gun activists who will decide, on a whim, what good character looks like?

Last time I checked, the Second Amendment didn’t say only those with a perfect track record can carry firearms.

Even flawed creatures, including every human being, has the right to protect their home from an intrusive government.

Don’t be surprised if these new laws are challenged in court.

Key Takeaways:

  • New York is seeking to undermine the Supreme Court with new “unconstitutional” gun restrictions.
  • The Supreme Court recently ruled against “objective” barriers to conceal carry permits.
  • New York made most of the city a “gun free zone” and made it even harder to acquire a permit.
