It looks like the ill-conceived #NeverTrump movement is officially dead.
Despite the efforts from stubborn Republicans to stop Donald Trump, the business man has thwarted every rival and secured the nomination.
Since Ted Cruz’s exit from the race, more and more Republican leaders have come out in support of Trump.
Even die-hard critics have softened on the man, backing him so–if for nothing else–Hillary Clinton is denied the White House.
Now one of his former rivals is backing the Trump Train.
According to Breitbart News, Sen. Rand Paul is sticking to his pledge to support the GOP nominee. Yes, that means Trump.
“I took a pledge when I ran for president to not run as an independent candidate and to support the Republican nominee,” Paul said. “I stand by that pledge, and I think that anybody who signs their word to a document ought to take it seriously before they sign a document. So I don’t think there’s any question that those who signed the document ought to say, ‘you know what? I honor the pledge.’”
Good for Paul, though he neglected to say Trump’s name. It may have taken all of his will to even get those words out.
Other former rivals of Trump have stated they will fulfill their pledge, including Marco Rubio, Rick Perry, Bobby Jindal, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, and Chris Christie. These individuals have put aside their personal agendas to support their party and the chosen candidate.
But there are still a few hold outs. It seems Carly Fiorina, Ted Cruz and Jeb Bush are still bitter over their losses. None have come out to say they’ll fulfill their pledge and back Trump. In fact, it seems Bush has gone so far as to openly renege on the whole thing.
“In November, I will not vote for Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton, but I will support principled conservatives at the state and federal levels, just as I have done my entire life,” Bush said in a Facebook post when Trump became the presumptive GOP nominee.
Sorry Jeb, you lost. Get over it. You signed a pledge to back the GOP nominee. That pledge didn’t come with the caveat “unless it’s Donald Trump.” You need to get over yourself and support your party.
The fact that he went to Facebook to announce he’s reneging exposes his bitterness over Trump and a possible attempt at swaying others.
That’s unprofessional behavior, Jeb. The rest of your family must be ashamed.
