Looks can be deceiving. In many cases, they actually are. Here is a lesson for all of us not to so quickly trust the people we see on TV and in the media.
The Tucson area is recovering from a shocking revelation about local icons, Som Lisaius and Krystin Sorich. These were local celebrities. Sorich was a former Miss Southern Arizona; both were notable news reporters and personalities.
They became fixtures on the local, KGUN, news. Their relationship and subsequent marriage was a hot topic. They even publicized it on their station with a video.
Before long, the happy couple had a baby. That’s when things got bad. Very bad.
Via Independent Journal:
On May 15th, their baby suddenly went limp and became unresponsive after Krystin breastfed him.
After rushing to the hospital and awaiting answers nervously, the couple learned from doctors that their infant had ingested cocaine through breastfeeding.
According to reports, the Lisaius family had a party at their home on May 14th, which is where the two did cocaine.
After Krystin tested positive for drug use, police obtained a search warrant for their Arizona home and found nearly two grams of cocaine—and a drug scale.
Yes, this photogenic, picture-perfect couple were regular users of cocaine, perhaps other substances. Despite their all-American love story and popularity, they had a dark, secret life. They are now being charged with a litany of crimes, not the least of is child abuse.
I don’t know what to be more upset about: the fact that they were drug users, or that Sorich was so stupid, she breastfed her child a day after using. On the one hand she is grossly irresponsible for using cocaine, but on the other tries to be a responsible parent by breastfeeding her child. Hell no, she won’t use baby formula! Do you know what they put in that stuff!??
The good news is the baby recovered from the terrifying ordeal. He has been placed in child protective services. Som and Krystin have been terminated from their jobs and publicly disgraced. Maybe now they can start on a path of recovery and be reunited with their child. Once they get out of jail, of course.
There are a lot of questions you can ask after a story like this. Obviously what they doing wasn’t a secret. They were using drugs at a party, after all. Don’t you think there were friends, family and coworkers at their home, while they were snorting coke? But only after it became public knowledge did the station fire them.
What does this say about all our public figures? Time and again we learn about the dark side of some of our beloved celebrities. We learn about their struggles with drugs, abuse, or depression. We’re shocked when they commit suicide or die of an overdose. If anything, it teaches us that they’re all human and not deserving of idol worship. They live with the same limitations as we do; they’re not invincible and suffer in the same ways.
At the very least, it’s a lesson that there’s something to be said for clean living.
