It’s about time – that was very likely the thoughts of millions of Americans watching the third and final debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, as moderator Chris Wallace from Fox News raised a particular issue and posed a particular question that’s been the elephant in the room for weeks.
What was the question?
The Fox News host went to WikiLeaks and brought up the matter of Clinton’s collusion with the media and ongoing corruption.
“We have watched two debates without a mention of Hillary’s email scandal or WikiLeaks,” the Political Insider reported.
And it’s been on the minds of Americans for weeks.
So what a relief that a moderator actually took the time to raise the issue. And Trump, for one, didn’t hold back his appreciation. His response, upon hearing the magic “WikiLeaks” words, was classic Trump, blunt and to-the-point.
“Thank you,” he said, after Wallace raised the matter.
Clinton, for her part, played the part of the artful dodger.
“Then,” Political Insider reported, “instead of discussing the issue of corruption, Hillary distracts and pivots by talking about Vladimir Putin. What?!?”
The duck and cover didn’t go unnoticed – or unchallenged. Trump immediately said what everyone in the watching world was thinking – and that was to raise eyebrows and shoulders, while wondering aloud why Clinton was discussing Russia and Putin when she was asked about WikiLeaks and the revelations of her own corruption.
As Fox News tweeted: “Trump: ‘I don’t know Putin. He said nice things about me. If we got along well, that would be good … He has no respect for her.’ #Debate.”
At one point, Clinton seemed so fed up with Wallace for daring to bring up WikiLeaks, she actually tried to turn the tables, saying to him in an accusatory tone: “It’s very clear you are quoting from WikiLeaks.”
But chalk it up to another score for Trump, especially when he slung this potshot at Clinton.
From CNN Newsroom’s Twitter feed: “Trump, citing WikiLeaks emails: ‘John Podesta said some horrible things about you and boy was he right.'”
