The media, Democrats and even some Republicans are making an issue of Donald Trump’s description of Judge Gonzalo Curie as “Mexican.”
They’re calling Trump’s remark “racist” while ignoring Curie’s membership in the La Raza Lawyers Association — a group whose name literally means “The Race.”
Curie’s associations are important, since he is presiding over the Trump University fraud case and therefore has to be impartial. Trump insists that Curie can’t be, and now he has more reason to doubt it, according to Breitbart.com:
Judge Gonzalo Curiel, who is overseeing a fraud case against Trump University, is reportedly a member of the San Diego La Raza Lawyers Association, which is affiliated with the Hispanic National Bar Association.
The Hispanic National Bar Association sent out a press release last summer after Donald Trump, who is now the presumptive Republican nominee, announced he was running for president and created a controversy by discussing illegal immigration and crime during his announcement speech.
The press release stated the organization’s mission to target Trump’s “business interests,” according to the Conservative Treehouse.
So, by an amazing coincidence, Curiel is tied to a group whose stated mission is to destroy the defendant in a case he’s presiding over.
Shouldn’t he recuse himself? Don’t wait for the media and other anti-Trump forces to demand the Curiel step down, despite this obvious conflict of interest. As far as they are concerned, everything is going according to plan.
