It’s difficult to pick the single worst decision of the last administration, but perhaps the biggest blunder of Obama’s presidency is Operation Fast and Furious.
This action was particularly heinous because it uncovered the lengths Obama’s administration would go to in order to deceive us, all while failing to see the repercussions their horrible policies would have.
The federal government colluded with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in order to sell firearms of all shapes and sizes to the drug cartels that run Mexico.
The ATF claims that this was done in order to track the guns once they were purchased, but in true incompetent fashion, over 1,400 guns bought by Mexican gang members were lost by the agency.
The death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry revealed that this travesty was occurring, and now he may be receiving some long overdue justice.
From Conservative Tribune:
In 2010, United States Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed by a Mexican cartel member with a gun supplied by the U.S. government under former President Barack Obama’s “Operation Fast and Furious.”
On Wednesday, the same suspected cartel member was reportedly arrested by a joint U.S.-Mexico law enforcement task force that included members of the Drug Enforcement Administration, U.S. Marshals and the Border Patrol Tactical Unit, according to Fox News.
Heraclio Osorio-Arellanes was captured at a ranch on the border of the Mexican states of Sinaloa and Chihuahua, and U.S. authorities have said they will seek his extradition.
This announcement is welcome news to the family of Brian Terry, who have waited seven long years to bring their loved one’s killer to justice. President Trump is able to do what Obama could not.
The federal authorities responsible for Operation Fast and Furious are all guilty of severe criminal negligence. Even El Chapo, the leader of one of the largest drug cartels in Mexico, had a Fast and Furious Rifle in his possession when he was arrested.
Indiscriminately arming dangerous criminals is such an obviously bad idea that it’s hard to believe anyone could give it the green light. Yet that’s just what happened under the Obama administration, where poor decisions were extremely commonplace.
Once we get the extradition of Osirio-Arellanes, U.S. authorities should get a warrant for Eric Holder’s arrest, for his part in strengthening the drug lords of Mexico and causing thousands to suffer.
