What’s Happening:
We know that a few of the RINOs who turned on Trump in 2020 have suffered political extinction. Liz Cheney is out and Adam Kinzinger has been gerrymandered out of a job.
But it was a different story for entrenched RINOs in the Senate. One top anti-Trump Republican appeared safe, despite her efforts to undermine his America-first victories. Trump backed her rival, but the expectations were uncertain.
Now, it looks like a 20-year swamp lover could be out in November.
From Fox News:
Incumbent Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski is in danger of losing the seat she has held for two decades to a challenger from her own party backed by former President Trump.
A Republican has roughly a 99% chance to win next month’s Alaska senate election, with Republican challenger Kelly C. Tshibaka considered mostly likely to emerge with the victory at 53%, according to election forecaster FiveThirtyEight…
Murkowski… has received the backing of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, who threw his weight behind the senate veteran despite Trump’s campaign against her.
This Alaska Senate race has shaped up to be establishment versus the American people.
Mitch McConnell, who appears to be a swamp-lover himself, threw millions at incumbent and Trump-hater Lisa Murkowski.
Murkowski was censured by Alaska Republicans for voting to indict Trump over the Democrats’ second impeachment.
The party back home appears to be surging behind Trump-backed candidate Kelly Tshibaka.
One site predicted a Republican has a 99% chance of securing the Senate seat. And Tshibaka has a 53% of winning.
It seems sentiment among Alaskan voters is strongly against Murkowski. Much like Wyoming voters, who dumped Liz Cheney, Alaskans are outraged that their senator supported the left’s witch hunter against Trump.
(Keep in mind, Alaska went for Trump in 2020).
In this election, voters appear to be motivated to send the D.C. swamp a message. They are voting against their enemies, just as much as they are voting for their allies.
And Murkowski does not appear to be an ally to Alaskan voters.
It was not clear early on if Tshibaka had much of a chance against the 20-year incumbent. But it seems this major turnaround further cements Trump’s influence in these midterms.
His endorsement and support could go a long way in shaping the future of Congress. Democrats (and RINOs) should be very, very worried.
Key Takeaways:
- Polling suggests Kelly Tshibaka will defeat 20-year incumbent Lisa Murkowski.
- Murkowski is considered a RINO by voters after turning on Trump in 2020.
- Murkowski received millions from Mitch McConnell, but Tshibaka has Trump’s support.
