Donald is changing his tune on the shutdown – no one expected this.

President Trump announced that he had a big announcement to unveil on Saturday afternoon. And boy, was it a big one.

No one knew exactly what Trump would announce as the government entered the 4th week of the longest shutdown in American history.

Donald Trump has been focused for weeks on figuring out how to reopen the government while getting the border wall built and keeping Americans safe.

And now one of the greatest deal-makers in modern history is announcing his solution.

During his speech, the President reminded Americans he promised to fix the crisis on the border, and he intends to keep that promise. He is committed to having the political courage to find a solution.

He is providing a path forward to break the logjam in Congress. He has been given input from Border Patrol, and listened to Democrats to come up with a commonsense compromise. And He will not let the Radical Left keep the southern border open.

Trump said that he was prepared to back a three-year extension of protections for 700,000 immigrants who came to the country illegally as children and were shielded from deportation under the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, in exchange for the $5.7 billion he has requested for a wall on the southern border.

The deal would also extend protections for 300,000 recipients of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program — which protects immigrants from designated countries with conditions that prevent nationals from returning safely.

It would also offer $800 million for drug detection technology to secure ports of entry, 2,750 new border agents and law enforcement professionals, and 75 new immigration judges to reduce the backlog of asylum requests. He said that all his measures have been supported by Democrats before.

Trump and his supporters have been arguing for weeks that Democrats own this shutdown. They started it, they are doing nothing to negotiate, and they seem happy for it to continue.

But now, after Trump and Pelosi’s back-and-forth over canceling the State of the Union and her trip to Europe, the President is offering a reasonable solution.

He has given up some of what he wanted, i.e. a concrete wall from sea to sea, to a steel barrier in important places, where it is most effective. He wanted to get the wall on its own, but now he’s having to make some concessions.

And if Pelosi and Schumer reject his offer with no good counter with the wall funding he is looking for, they are going to lose very quickly.

It will become apparent, even to average Democrats, that their party is the party of obstruction, not solutions.

Unfortunately, the rumors going around are that Pelosi rejected his offer to end the shutdown before he officially announced it.
