Donald Trump rocked Washington from the day he took the office of President. Arguably his biggest shakeup, his biggest “drain the swamp” moment, has been his unceremonious dismissal of FBI Director James Comey.
Comey had his own Washington-rocking moments, most notably in his two bombshells in July and October of 2016 concerning Hillary’s ongoing investigation.
He was dealing with an unprecedented situation of a leading presidential candidate under investigation for corruption, but Comey inserted himself politically in ways that angered both sides of the aisle.
This is the main reason Trump and his Deputy Attorney General cited when they fired Comey, and while it is grounds for dismissal (which is within Trump’s authority), that is obviously just the tip of the iceberg.
Really, who would fire the man their political opponents blame for losing the election?
Liberals, who attacked Comey whenever his rulings did not go his way, and were currently following Hillary’s lead in blaming him, chalk it a ll up to trying to stop the FBI investigation into the Trump campaign’s possible Russian connections.
Again, really, who would fire the head of the organization currently investigating you? Not only would that be a massive political mistake, but it would make it more likely for FBI agents to leak information that could hurt Trump.
So what is the real reason Trump fired Comey? It’s the reason most people get fired: incompetence. The Hillary investigation was just one small piece of the puzzle. Comey, an Obama appointee, has been busy running the FBI into the ground with scandal after scendal. Then he spends all his time defending himself as the only non-partisan man in Washington.
This standard would not do in a swamp-free Washington led by President Trump.
Here are the top 10 FBI scandals Comey was responsible that led Trump to clean house. From Grabien News:
1. Before he bombed the Boston Marathon, the FBI interviewed Tamerlan Tsarnaev but let him go. Russia sent the Obama Administration a second warning, but the FBI opted against investigating him again.
2. Shortly after the NSA scandal exploded in 2013, the FBI was exposed conducting its own data mining on innocent Americans; the agency, Bloomberg reported, retains that material for decades (even if no wrongdoing is found).
3. The FBI had possession of emails sent by Nidal Hasan saying he wanted to kill his fellow soldiers to protect the Taliban — but didn’t intervene, leading many critics to argue the tragedy that resulted in the death of 31 Americans at Fort Hood could have been prevented.
