After Trump’s victory in November, one of his earliest decisions before his inauguration was to nominate General James “Mad Dog” Mattis as his Secretary of Defense.
President Trump’s reasoning for doing so made sense to those in the military who have worked under Mattis. Many admire him for his strength, his dedication to his soldiers, and his brilliant military mind.
The strategic thinking of Mattis has been on full display in recent weeks, with multiple strikes across the Middle East proving to be great successes.
The most recent example of this is the bombing of an ISIS complex in Afghanistan, with initial reports indicating this was one of the most successful strikes against ISIS yet.
For his part, President Trump has downplayed his role in all of this, giving all the praise to the military.
From Independent Journal Review:
When asked by a reporter if he authorized the strike, Trump responded, “Everybody knows exactly what happened.”
“What I do is I authorize my military,” the president added. “We have the greatest military in the world, and they have done a job, as usual. So we have given them total authorization, and that’s what they are doing.”
