Many individuals have noted the striking similarities between our current president and Ronald Reagan.
Both were members of the entertainment industry prior to entering the political world. Both were considered long shots to win the presidency by the mainstream media and establishment Republicans.
Yet the two possessed the uncompromising drive to smash through the barriers set in place for them. Now Trump is continuing to follow in Reagan’s footsteps in another important way.
NRA Executive Director Chris Cox announced on Twitter that President Trump will be speaking at this year’s NRA convention. This will be the first time a president has spoken at an NRA convention since 1983, during Reagan’s administration.
The move was met favorably by conservatives nationwide.
From Chicks on the Right:
Jennifer Baker, an NRA spokeswoman, has said that the NRA is “excited to once again have a president who respects the Second Amendment.”
Like many of you folks, I’ll definitely be tuning in to what he has to say. Trump knows that the vast majority of his base are strong 2A folks, so this was a smart move on his part.
President Trump made waves last year when he received an early endorsement from the NRA during their 2016 convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
During that speech, Trump vowed to abolish gun free zones, stating that the attack in San Bernardino could have turned out differently had the other side been armed. He also warned of the dangers gun lovers faced if Hillary Clinton were elected president.
That statement rang true for second amendment advocates, who overwhelmingly rejected Clinton in 2016.
Another similarity Reagan and Trump share is that they both nominated pro-second amendment Justices to the Supreme Court. If the unthinkable happened and Trump had lost to Clinton, Merrick Garland, an anti-second amendment liberal, would likely be on the Supreme Court right now instead of the Scalia-like Justice Neil Gorsuch.
Do you think Reagan would be proud of Trump’s efforts to carry on his legacy? Let us know in the comments.
