An enterprising young rap artist-songwriter who calls herself Chapter has produced an unorthodox rap video and released it on YouTube in an anti welfare, anti EBT campaign. WARNING the video that includes her song contains EXPLICIT language, the link provided here is to her family friendly “interview.”
Ms. Chapter explains that California is the most lucrative place for career welfare recipients to latch onto the federal teat because of their generous taxpayer funded amenities. According to her the State pays $221.00 per month GR or cash, $170.00 per month per person in food stamp benefits, WIC, Medicaid, subsidized housing, utilities, and full daycare expenses.
It is a mystery why someone who doesn’t have a job and has never worked would be in need of daycare, but as Chapter said in the interview the daycare money is scammed by listing a friend as the care giver and splitting the proceeds.
Prior to Obama lifting the work requirement in July 2012, (surely it was a coincidence that the Presidential election was only three months away) recipients were mandated to work twenty hours per week to remain eligible for welfare benefits. The Hill reported on Thursday of last week, HHS issued regulations that modified — gutted — the work requirement. Its new regulations allow the states to substitute education programs for work to get welfare benefits. The regs say that “vocational educational training or job search/readiness programs” “count as well” in meeting the basic condition that recipients work in order to receive welfare benefits. The Congress specifically prohibited the use of education or training to fulfill the requirement. When it passed welfare reform Congress expressly limited the authority of HHS to waive the work requirement.
Fox News seemed to be in agreement yet they placed the blame more squarely on Obama’s shoulders as did Mitt Romney. Fox News reported; Republicans are accusing the Obama administration of unilaterally gutting welfare reform after the Department of Health and Human Services quietly notified states that they may seek a waiver for the program’s strict work requirements.
HHS made the announcement in a policy memo Thursday, news that slipped well below the radar amid a raucous day on the presidential campaign trail. But a few prominent GOP lawmakers on Capitol Hill picked up on the change, and accused the administration of overhauling one of the most important bipartisan agreements of the past several decades.
“President Obama just tore up a basic foundation of the welfare contract” Republican Study Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, said in a statement. He also called the move a “blatant violation of the law.”
Mitt Romney on Friday spoke up on the change, saying: “President Obama now wants to strip the established work requirements from welfare.” He said “the linkage of work and welfare is essential to prevent welfare from becoming a way of life.”
America is, and has been running close to a trillion dollar a year deficit, in December the national debt surpassed 18 trillion dollars and a large portion of this money is going toward funding entitlements. It’s hard to nail down a specific number of how many tax dollars are spent to fund the lifestyle of able bodied people who refuse to work. Some reports are that over 900 billion dollars a year are squandered on these government programs. That’s about$8,700.00 per year for the average taxpayer. It quite simply is unsustainable, and it never should have been expected to be a sustained lifestyle. Welfare has morphed from being a helping hand up, into a perverse career choice that is draining our economy and our society.
Millions of working men and women, who can no longer afford to keep their health insurance, will wake up early tomorrow morning and leave their nice warm beds, put a bologna sandwich in a zip lock bag then brave the cold as they go to work. They will go about their daily struggles of trying to keep food on the tables for their families, and finding a balance between running out of gasoline and the shut off notice from the utility company. But when they receive their paycheck at the end of the week the welfare queens have already taken their share. Do you suppose that is what Obama means by paying our fair share?
